Super Bowl XL: Any Given Sunday
Well football fans, today is the "Big Game" in Detroit, Michigan. Will Jerome Bettis get to win the Super Bowl on his final game AND in his home town AND get "one for the thumb" for the Steelers? Or will the Seahawks snatch their first Super Bowl victory in the history of their franchise? It is about eight hours till kick off. Emotions are running high. We'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, fans from all over the world have been treated to classic Detroit winter weather. What a treat! Sure the game will be played inside in the relatively new Ford Field dome (side note trivia: The Pittsburgh Steelers played the Detroit Lions in the first ever preseason football game at Ford Field). But outside it is cold and snowy. It is currently about 34 degrees Fahrenheit and several inches of snow were dumped on the host city overnight. Beautiful football weather.
So who are we rooting for?
The picture on the left shows the last 100 orders placed on QualityBargainz.com (your friendly online prank and practical joke place!). The red dot on the map is where Super Bowl XL is being played. As the map clearly shows, people on the East Coast near the Pittsburgh area have a better sense of humor and purchase the QualityBargainz pranks and novelties more frequently than those in the Seattle area. Pittsburgh Steeler fans ... we see your support of QB and all of our rooting power is behind you 100%.
You probably should also know that Mrs. QB is from Pennsylvania and is a HUGE Steelers fan. We couldn't get tickets to the game, but we know someone who is going. Our consolation is that we can watch the game on the big screen TV in the comfort of our own home (provided the winter weather doesn't knock out both the satellite signal and the cable TV). Mrs. QB's "Terrible Towel" will be at the game, however. So please look for it ... it is the yellow towel swinging above the head of our friend going to the Big Game.
Are you watching for the football or for the commercials?
Even non-die-hard football fans love the Super Bowl. Corporations spend millions of dollars for short 30 second spots. The high level of expectations for the commercials are only rivaled by the expectations of the players. Which commercial will be your favorite?
I don't believe the following commercial was ever aired during a Super Bowl. But it is funny. It is football related. And it shows how critical it is that every person on the team do what they are supposed do and not make a single blunder. Often times football games are not won or lost on your own team's talents, but rather by capitalizing on the mistakes the other team makes. Watch, learn and laugh!
