Videos: Lighting Up Christmas

Oh Holy Night, the Lights are Brightly Shining!

If you have not seen these Christmas light videos, you really should. It is an amazing project. Their electric bill won't be so jolly this year, but all the lights work which is more than can be said for Clark Griswold's house. As far as we know, no actual reindeer were injured or killed in the making of these videos.

Online Game: Snow Blitz SW

Are You the Snowball King of the Neighborhood?

Each snowball that hits you makes you colder. If you get too cold, you freeze and that's the end of your game. When you are getting cold, going into defensive mode and dodging the snowballs can buy you enough time to warm up enough to get back into the fight. Hide behind the bunkers and take shelter.

Don't forget about the trajectory. Hit your targets hiding being a bunker with a jump and a lob. Those lob shots to the face can take them out in a hurry. Clear enough targets with your icy snowballs and the game scrolls to tougher and tougher levels. Best of all, this is a FREE Snowball Fight Game.

Online Games: Misc X-mas

More FREE Fun with Santa Games

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
'Tis the season to be jolly.
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la, fa la la la la.
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
Fa la la la la la la la la.

Tis the season for fun and games, too. This article will present three online Santa games for you to play.

Sober Santa

Santa is enjoying a little too much Christmas cheer. And you are here to help him. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, steer Santa up on the roof top to grab and guzzle the champagne glasses. The more he drinks, the harder he is to guide. Don't let Santa fall off the roof or Christmas may be ruined. You wouldn't want that on your conscience. The power to save Christmas and cause Santa a massive hangover is in your hands.

Here is the game -------> Sober Santa

Santa Snowboard

This game is pretty basic. Hit the space bar on your keyboard to make Santa jump his snowboard over dangerous obstacles. Jump into bonus balls but be careful to time your jumps to keep Santa out of harms way. Grabbing a bonus ball will allow you the power of a super jump by hitting the up arrow key. The difficulty levels increase as you progress. And it seems as though Santa has enjoyed some "liquid courage" before donning his snowboard.

Winter Workout

Santa has a big night coming up. And he needs to be in shape to have enough energy to deliver all those toys to all the good girls and boys. This is where you come in. Help Santa train for the big night.

100 Yard Dash - Alternate keystrokes on the "X" and "C" keys to make Santa run. The faster you key, the faster he will run. These wind sprints are good for Santa's cardiovascular system.

The Long Jump - Alternate keystrokes on the "X" and "C" keys to make Santa run and then the "Space Bar" to make him jump. If you aren't running fast enough or jump too late, Santa will fall into a hole it the ice and freeze into a solid ice cube. Successful jumps are good for Santa's training, but becoming an ice cube might make poor Santa ill.

Roof Hurdles - Using the same keys as the Long Jump, speed Santa across the night sky leaping from building to building. Excellent practice for Santa for the big night.

Ski Jump - How far can Santa fly? Hit the "Space Bar" to start Santa's attempt. Once airborne, us the "X" and "C" keys to adjust Santa's flight angle.

Online Games: Billiards

Rack 'em Up!

Itching to smack some balls around, but the local pool hall is closed or is five towns over? No problem! We've got a couple of online billiards games to share with you. These pool halls never close and a good game is only a click away.

Classic Eight Ball: Multiplayer

This is one of the best pool games we've seen. The graphics are realistic, the sounds are spot on, and the physics are so good you will almost feel like you are playing for real. Best of all, this is a FREE multiplayer game! IM your buddy and get ready to rack 'em up! Can't find your buddy but you're still itching to play? Come on in anyway, there's usually a number of others in the lobby looking to pick up a game.

Here's this game -----> Classic Eight Ball

This multiplayer game does require registration, but it is quick and simple and all the information they ask you to provide is simply a username and a password. The link provided will take you to the menu for all of their multiplayer games. Click on the pool game, enter/create your username and password, and you are ready to go!

The site will keep track of a ranking score for you based on the your win/loss history. A quick glance at your potential opponents' rank score will let you know who may have a comparable skill level. Experiment with speed, angle and spin to get those perfect shots and increase your rank score. Most of all ... have fun!

Blast Billiards: Single Player

Not the social type? Not to fear. Here's another great pool game for you to enjoy! Blast Billiards, created by Mousebreaker, is a new twist on a classic bar game. In this version of pool, the object is to sink all the balls on the table in the allotted time - only you aren't playing with traditional pool balls ... you are shooting at bombs! And if you are too slow, these bombs will blow up and your game will end. Don't worry too much about that, as this is another FREE online game ... simply start another and see if you can beat your own high score.

Here's this game -----> Blast Billiards 4

This is a fast paced game. Sink the bombs in the pockets before they explode. The physics in this version are certainly different than the Classic Eight Ball game above. The bomb balls are heavier than traditional pool balls and the game play reflects this.

Scratches will cost you 5 seconds on your time clock, so keep that cue ball on the table and out of the pockets. Not hitting a bomb with your cue ball is also a foul and will cost you 5 seconds on your time clock.

As the game progresses and you complete more of the 15 table challenges available, you will be given different bonus point options to help raise your score. Dropping the black bomb last will give you bonus points. Or you may be eligible for bonus points by dropping the bombs in a certain order or into certain pockets. These little twists keep the game challenging and fun. But don't get too distracted by the bonus point objectives or you may not sink all the bombs in time!

Online Game: Santa's Snowball

With Christmas Season Upon Us, Santa Needs to Get Rolling!

Santa's Snowball has to be the funniest shockwave game we've seen this season. The stage is set when Santa's elves are overheard making jokes about Santa. Well, Santa has more than a few tricks up his sleeve to keep his worker elves in line.

Conjure up a giant snowball and guide Santa's magic hands to steer the snowball into the scattering elves. The more elves you roll into your snowball, the higher your score.

Don't forget to snatch up the snowman bonus by rolling him into your snowball as well. Are the elves taking cover by shimmying up the North Pole? Rattle their cages and knock them to the ground by steering your mighty snowball into it.

Targeting a skating elf? Line them up well, because it is nearly impossible to steer on the ice.

The graphics are wonderful, the action is challenging, the concept is novel and the music is catchy. The only negative we could see is that it does take a while to download ... but it is FREE.

WARNING: This game does take a little while to download, and players are shown a commercial advertisement before the game starts increasing the anticipation but also the download time.

Click here to play -------> Santa's Snowball and post your high scores in our comment section here!

Dice Game: Greed

Greed the dice game: rules and playDo You Feel the Need for Greed?

Greed is a fun game you can play with family and friends, and all that is required is a score pad and a handful of regular six-sided dice. Back in the good old college days, when we had more time than money, we would play Greed for hours on end. And although I've seen a good number of variations on the game of Greed (aka 10,000), here are the basic rules:

General Rules:

Greed is a dice game played between two or more players. The objective of the game is to score points from the dice rolls. Points are accumulated separately for each player. The game is played with 5 dice. The first player reaching a certain amount of points (usually 10,000) wins.

How to Play:

The game is played in turns. In each turn a player can register points which are accumulated through all turns. To register points a player must reach a certain limit (usually 1,00 points) on a turn before he can keep and register his points, otherwise he is considered bust.

If a player goes bust he gets no points for that turn and must wait for his next turn to roll again.

If the roll of a player's turn reaches or exceeds the minimum score required to open their scoring ability, aka the "Nut," then the player has two options: to stop and register the points, or to continue and try to get more points.

To continue, the player rolls all the dice that have not yet scored in this turn. If no dice are remaining, the player continues by rolling all the dice again. The player can choose which dice will score in each turn.

A player may continue as long as at least one die scores in each roll. If a roll produces no points, the player goes bust and all points made in this turn are lost. The points scored in earlier turns are not affected.

If a player stops rolling without being bust, he can register all points scored in this turn. They are added to the scores from earlier turns.

How to score:

Each dice roll is scored as follows (the rules compare very roughly to the dice game "Yatzee"):

Three of a kind score 100*face value of one of the dice.
(Example: Three 3's score 300 points)
If the face value is 1, then it is scored as 1000.

Single 1's score 100 points.

Single 5's score 50 points.

A straight, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" or a "2, 3, 4, 5, 6" scores 750.

Optional Rules:

Number of dice used - We've seen this game played with anywhere between 5 and 10 dice.

The "Nut" - The minimum score a person must role before they are allowed to accumulate points, can be any amount or eliminated all together.

Going Over - When we played, we had a rule that in order to win a person needed to accumulate 10,000 points exactly. If they rolled too many points, those points were subtracted from the score instead of being added to the score. This rule variation does not appear as prevalent as some of the others, but certainly can increase the difficulty dimension.

The Straight - If playing with more than 5 dice, one variation is to make the Straight "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6," which scores 1000 points.

Play Online for FREE:

We've found one decent web page online that has a java based Greed game. Click here to play Greed now.

This version does not contain the Straight for scoring purposes. Nor does it require a minimum opening role, or a "Nut." This online version is a one person game which pits you against the Greed Master whose AI is certainly sufficient to make it challenging.

Other Dice Fun:

For those dice games that require a roll of 7 or 11 with two dice, these Trick Dice are a perfect addition to your prankster package. These dice are not loaded in the traditional sense ... loaded dice with the weight cast inside the dice are not 100% predictable ... these dice ARE 100% predictable. You WILL role a 7 or 11 every time! Perfect for magic tricks, gags and pranks. The Deluxe version come with two sets of dice, one regular and one "special." The regular version of these Trick Dice are smaller than a normal set of dice and do not come with a matching regular set - an inexpensive way to get the same effect.
